2019 Grandview Zebras Football

The Grandview Zebras capped off a dominant season by securing back-to-back state championships, defeating the Pottsboro Cardinals 42-35 at AT&T Stadium! With a 15-1 record, the Zebras clinched their second consecutive Class 3A Division I title under first-year head coach Ryan Ebner, who took the reins after the retirement of coach Brad Davis.

What makes this victory even more special is that over 90% of the team grew up playing together in the Grandview Youth Association Football Programs, creating an unbreakable bond and unmatched team chemistry. The Zebras were a force from start to finish, going 4-0 in non-district play and 5-1 in district action, with their only loss coming to district rival Whitney.

In the playoffs, the Zebras turned up the heat. They dominated Rockdale 42-7 in the first round, avenged a past loss by eliminating East Chambers 43-29 in the second round, and blew past Cameron Yoe 45-14 in the third round to exorcise demons from a 2015 defeat. In the Regional Final, the Zebras’ defense shut down Troy’s running game in a 34-13 victory. In the State Semifinal, they took down Columbus 41-21, advancing to the final showdown.

Then came the physical battle with Pottsboro in the State Final. The Zebras threw the more dominating punches, finishing off the undefeated Cardinals 42-35 to complete their quest for back-to-back state titles!

Offensive and Defensive MVP Dane Jentsch was a standout, and the Zebras’ performance showed just how powerful this homegrown team was. What a season!
